Professional tree care for one of the largest and most tree-diverse cities in North Texas.

Tree Care Across Dallas

Dallas covers nearly 400 square miles and ranges from dense urban neighborhoods with century-old canopies to brand-new suburbs where every tree was planted five years ago. A removal in Preston Hollow, where a massive pecan is hanging over a pool house on a half-acre lot, is a completely different job than taking down a dead cedar elm in a tight Oak Cliff backyard with a six-foot fence on three sides. We handle both, and everything in between.

Highland Park and University Park have towering live oaks, pecans, and red oaks on large estate properties that need consistent professional pruning. Both cities enforce strict tree preservation codes. Lake Highlands and the White Rock Lake area have old-growth pecans, Shumard oaks, and cedar elms that have been growing 80 to 100 years or more. Preston Hollow is one of our busiest areas for large-scale tree work. Far North Dallas and North Dallas mix established neighborhoods with newer developments where young trees need structural pruning.

In Lakewood, Greenway Parks, and along Swiss Avenue, live oaks and pecans planted in the 1920s and 1930s line the streets. Removing a 36-inch-diameter oak in a Lakewood front yard surrounded by power lines and a historic home requires cranes, rigging gear, and a plan. Oak Cliff has seen reinvestment in recent years, and we do a lot of cleanup pruning and hazard removals on properties with overgrown, neglected trees. On the commercial side, Deep Ellum, the Design District, and Uptown require urban tree maintenance in tight spaces, crane work over buildings, and small-lot removals where there is zero room for error.

Common Trees in Dallas

Live oaks are the dominant species across Dallas. They provide incredible shade but grow aggressively and need regular pruning. Pecans are the second most common large tree and produce heavy crops that can break limbs if the canopy is not thinned. Crape myrtles are everywhere, and we prune them correctly without topping. Cedar elms tend to develop co-dominant stems that split in storms. Red oaks and Shumard oaks grow quickly but are susceptible to oak wilt. Chinese pistache does well in Dallas heat but can develop structural issues if not pruned when young.

Dallas Tree Ordinance and Permits

Dallas has one of the strictest tree ordinances in Texas. Any tree 2 inches in caliper or greater is considered protected under the Dallas Development Code. Removal requires a permit and tree survey. The city uses an inch-for-inch replacement formula for mitigation, which means removing a large tree can result in significant fees or the requirement to plant multiple replacement trees. Heritage trees, 24 inches DBH or larger, receive extra protection and removing one without authorization carries steep penalties. We are familiar with the Dallas permitting process and can coordinate with the city arborist on your behalf.

Oak Wilt and Tree Health

Oak wilt has been spreading through Dallas, with outbreaks confirmed in Lakewood, the White Rock Lake area, and East Dallas. This fungal disease kills red oaks within weeks and spreads to live oaks through connected root systems underground. It is critical to prune oaks only during the dormant season, roughly November through January, to minimize infection risk. If you suspect oak wilt, early identification and proper removal of infected trees can prevent the disease from spreading across your property and into neighboring yards.

Storm Damage and Weather Risks

Ice storms and straight-line wind events are the biggest threats to trees in Dallas. Straight-line winds during spring and summer thunderstorms regularly exceed 60 miles per hour, snapping limbs and toppling trees with structural weaknesses. Trees along the Trinity River floodplain face additional stress from periodic flooding that weakens root systems and causes soil erosion. If you have trees in a flood-prone area, regular inspections are important to catch problems before they become emergencies.
